GOOD surf photography is where practiced preparation meets the chaotic elements of our ocean. A bond between surfer and photographer. A red onion of a swell growing from the South Pacific and the tranquil thunder of waves as you shoot from the depths.
Surf and underwater photography lures many but few make it a profession. High risk with little reward as MP Cunningham puts in his recent short film The Calm, but being a surf photographer isnt about the money, its soul food. Its the gratification of being so close to that beautiful, raw, dangerous energy and being completely at home.
