GOOD surf photography is where practiced preparation meets the chaotic elements of our ocean. A bond between surfer and photographer. A red onion of a swell growing from the South Pacific and the tranquil thunder of waves as you shoot from the depths.

Surf and underwater photography lures many but few make it a profession. High risk with little reward as MP Cunningham puts in his recent short film The Calm, but being a surf photographer isnt about the money, its soul food. Its the gratification of being so close to that beautiful, raw, dangerous energy and being completely at home. Watch the video below for some insight into why guys like MP and Brian Bielmann do what they do and maybe youll learn a few tips along the way.
